STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW!
The NASA SD
Summers of Innovations partners want SD girls to have unique, memorable and
valuable experiences in space science.
For this reason, grants funds have been
provided for this trip. Individual
girls, groups of friends, scout troops, etc are invited to participate. All who do will earn their SD NASA Rising
Star Student recognition. (Learn more
about the recognition at www.sd-discovery.com, click on Summers of
Innovation.)
You will
camp at the Cedar Pass Campground in the Badlands. Your meals will be provided. As of now, transportation will be provided
from Pierre and White River. The
coordinators can help organize carpooling from other locations as needed. One adult chaperone per 6 girls is
required. Chaperones, meals and camping will be covered by the grant. The Pierre group will leave at 8am on Friday,
August 17th and arrive at Cedar Pass around 10am. Groups coming from other locations should
plan to be at Cedar Pass by 10am also.
If you are traveling quite a distance and need to camp overnight on the
16th, that maybe arranged.
Some tents will be provided. If
you can bring your own tent, that is appreciated.
The group
will leave Cedar Pass about 3:30pm on Sunday, August 19th. Everyone who attends is strongly encouraged
to stay until that time. If you cannot
stay until that time, you must note this to the coordinators when registering. Those who can attend the entire event will
be given preference. If room is
available for those who cannot stay the entire time, some pre-event activities
will be assigned.
Participants
will need to bring clothing for hot days and chilly nights, a sleeping bag and
pillow, swimsuit, a couple of towels, toiletries, money for snacks or souvenirs
(all meals and a few snacks will be provided), sunscreen, bug spray, cell
phone, if you have one. Optional items
include: tent, camera.
